I am intrigued by the visual parallels between the body’s internal structures and the flow systems found throughout the natural world. Patterns in nature and within the human body continually inspire my work. I am especially drawn to imagery of veins, arteries, and neural pathways, and I’m fascinated by how closely they echo the branching forms of roots, river systems, and lava flows. This resemblance creates a compelling sense of ambiguity, an in-between space where the viewer may not be entirely sure what they are seeing, which allows the work to shift between the organic and the abstract.
I work primarily as a hand builder, experimenting with a wide range of clays and surface treatments. My sculptural ceramics push beyond traditional approaches, and I enjoy taking materials to their limits. The kiln plays an important role in my process, and I embrace the unpredictable moments that happen along the way, allowing the material to transform in ways I can’t fully control.
